In this talk, he will explore the social context and dynamics that have influenced the development and use of sign languages in Côte d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast, West Africa). He will discuss the interplay between ASL and local sign languages, the factors contributing to the prestige of ASL, and the impact this has had on the preservation of indigenous signed languages. There will be signed/voiced interpretations for this event.
