CSULB’s Global Studies Department welcomes Luis Quintero ’21 as the university’s inaugural Peace Corps Coverdell Fellow.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in Spanish from CSULB, Quintero worked as a substitute teacher and taught refugee students before serving in the Peace Corps from 2023 to 2025 in Tlaxcala, Mexico. During his service, he helped provide environmental education to middle and high school students.

Through the Coverdell Fellows Program, Quintero will assist CSULB’s on-campus Peace Corps recruiter and serve as a graduate assistant for the Global Studies Institute. He is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in International Affairs, with an interest in immigrant advocacy.

The Peace Corps Coverdell Fellows Program provides financial awards to returned Peace Corps volunteers who continue their education and pursue careers in public service.
