  • Chancellor Mildred García Calls for Systems Where Women Leaders Can Thrive - During a visit to the College of Education this past week, California State University Chancellor Mildred García posed a sobering statistic: fewer than 40 percent of U.S. colleges and universities have had a woman president. García’s talk, delivered at the start of Women’s History Month, focused on what it takes for leaders — particularly women and people from historically underrepresented communities — to not just reach leadership roles but thrive in them.

  • Where Every Student Belongs: A Unified Approach to Advising and Success - When students step into the College of Education’s new Student Success and Advising Center (SSAC), they’re walking into more than renovated space — they’re entering a reimagined approach to student support that brings every resource including advising, wellness, and financial aid under one roof.

What used to be three separate offices — the Teacher Preparation Advising Center, Credential Center, and Graduate Studies Office — have merged into one unified team. The goal is to help every undergraduate, credential, and graduate student thrive, not only academically but professionally and personally.

  • Dr. Tracy Tolbert, Lecturer in CCJEM, Has Passed - Dr. Tracy Tolbert, a lecturer in the School of Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Emergency Management (CCJEM) for the past 28 years, has passed. Dr. Tolbert received her Ph.D. and M.S. in Sociology from the University of Southern California and her B.S. from Indiana University. She taught undergraduate courses in Criminal Justice Theory and Crime and Inequality. Her research interests were in sex and gender issues in criminology and victimology and stalking and other forms of predatory behaviors. She suffered an illness last fall but returned to her classes for the spring 2026 semester. She was an icon in the CCJEM and CHHS and will be terribly missed.

  • CNSM Students Tour Genentech Biologics Manufacturing Facility - CNSM students from Chemistry & Biochemistry and Biology departments visited Genentech in Oceanside, CA for a tour of the Genentech Biologics Manufacturing Facility. Students were able to see firsthand the scale and sophistication of a state-of-the-art biologics manufacturing facility. More importantly, they had meaningful conversations with Genentech team leaders about career pathways, skills to build now, and how to get their foot in the door in industry.

Thank you to the faculty and Omar Hussein of the Grad Center for supporting these students and their applications. The 2026-27 Pre-Doctoral Scholars will be announced by July 2026!
