Faculty - GE Categories and Essential GE Skills

Courses are approved to fulfill particular GE categories based on CSU breadth requirements, but the development of Essential GE skills in these courses is most important. Departments are responsible for assessing the extent to which students are mastering these skills in their GE courses. The table below provides requirements for departments as they propose, and assess their GE courses. The guidelines identify required primary Essential GE Skills for each of the GE Categories. Departments must teach and assess a minimum of two (2) primary Essential GE Skills in each class (and no more than three (3)). Learning outcomes are associated with each Essential Skill.
