MA Alum Sunny Hodgson Publishes on AI in the Legal Profession
CSULB Anthropology alum Sunny Hodgson has co-authored an article, "Designing legal interfaces: Human-machine agency and the practice of AI in U.S. law," that was published in the Society for Applied Anthropology journal Human Organization (7/20/26). In the article, Hodgson and her co-author investigate how legal professionals ascribe agency to AI (granting it influence, credibility, and, at times, blame) and argue that AI's role emerges not only from its outputs but from the human responses that give those outputs meaning and authority. The article is featured in a special issue focused on AI, Anthropology, and the Work of Reimagining. Hodgson is an alum of the Applied Anthropology program at CSULB. She works as a Senior UX Researcher at LexisNexis. Congratulations, Sunny!
