Associate Vice President, Faculty Affairs

Dr. Kirsty Fleming became the Associate Vice President for Faculty Affairs on July 2, 2018.

Dr. Fleming was the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences for five years at California State University, San Bernardino. As dean, Dr. Fleming oversaw department chair, faculty, and staff hiring decisions, made reappointment, tenure, and promotion recommendations, and worked with faculty and staff to ensure the success of students. As dean, Dr. Fleming had a goal of developing a culture of inclusive evidenced-based teaching practice in the college; the strategy for attaining this goal was developing and implementing sustained professional development programs for faculty and staff members.

Prior to taking on the role of dean, Dr. Fleming was the Executive Director for the Kentucky Center for Mathematics for five years. As executive director, she established collaborations and partnerships at the local, state and national level, planned and implemented new programs, as well as enhanced existing programs to strengthen the teaching and learning of mathematics, at all educational levels, and throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Dr. Fleming also served as professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Northern Kentucky University for three years with two additional years as professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics. This role included mentoring faculty and students, designing and implementing activities to increase the recruitment and retention of students, and facilitating curriculum development.

Dr. Fleming received her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of London and her Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Birmingham.
