College Advisor Mentor

Mandatory Training: August 14 - 17, 2023 (interviews may be in person or via Zoom)

Responsibilities & Duties

College Advisor Mentors will spend 20 hours a week in an assigned local high school (or may be virtual) assisting students with college admission and financial aid applications. Maintain files and records on 120+ project participants documenting services provided, student progress and outcomes. Conduct financial aid and college application workshops. Attend periodic meetings, training seminars and other events related to stated duties.

Qualifications

Completion of one year of college with good academic standing. Experience working with high school age students from low-income, disadvantaged backgrounds desirable. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Bi-lingual English/Spanish desirable. Dress neatly and be well-groomed. Must have own transportation, a valid California Driver's License and car insurance. Must be reliable and punctual. Must pass Livescan fingerprinting provided by the program.

Days and Hours

Must be available at least three days, preferably between the hours of 8:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. for a total of 19 hours a week. Can work with those only available two full days due to fieldwork assignments.

Salary

$17.00 - $18.00 depending on experience and grade level

Program Specialist

Training Dates: August 15 - 19, 2022 (may be in person or via Zoom)
Start Date: August 15, 2022

Responsibilities & Duties

Assist the Program Coordinator in supervising the College Advisor Mentors placed at designated school sites. Provide workshops on financial aid, college applications, college options and study skills. Assist in providing training information at staff meetings and training sessions. Review participant files at school sites for services provided. Provide program services to insure adequate information is rendered to each participant. Services include tutoring, study skills techniques, career awareness, college and financial aid advisement, college entrance examination information, college and financial application assistance.

Qualifications

Graduate student in a counseling or higher education related program. Knowledge of higher education college systems and financial aid programs and experience in providing workshops and working in group settings. Experience working with high school age students from low-income, disadvantaged backgrounds and prior supervisory experience desireable. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Bi-lingual English/Spanish desirable. Dress neatly and be well-groomed. Must have own transportation, a valid California Driver's License and car insurance. Must pass Live Scan fingerprinting provided by program. Must be reliable and punctual.

Days/Hours

Minimum of three days a week, preferably between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. for a total of 19 weekly hours.

Salary

$17.50 - $18.50 Depending on experience.
