"On Playful Protest and ¿Qué Pasa, USA?"

The American Studies program invites you to join us for a book talk with Dr. Kristie Soares on Playful Protest and the Political Work of Joy in Latinx Media. This book focuses on Puerto Rican & Cuban diasporic media to show how areas of culture like music & sitcoms resist dominant stories told about Latinx joy. 

In this talk, Dr. Soares will lift up a chapter on ¿Qué Pasa, USA? and the US family sitcom to think about choteo and silliness in politics and struggle. This talk is cosponsored by Women’s, Gender, Sexuality Studies, Chicano/an and Latino/a Studies, and CLA Scholarly Intersections.
