Myriam Gurba Book Talk
We are excited to announce that Myriam Grub will be reading from her new collection, Poppy State: A Labyrinth of Plants and a Story of Beginnings (Timber Press, 2025), at CSULB on Thursday, November 13 at 11 am in PH1 141.
Poppy State draws on the histories of California native plants, flowers, maize, and strawberries (among other plants) to take readers through a labyrinth like narrative that grapples with empire and colonialism, racialization and queerness, sexual violence and survival, family genealogies and migration, among other themes. This wide-ranging collection invites readers to consider the relationship between human experience and the natural environment through a critical lens that demands deeper attention and consciousness. Gurba is an award-winning author and has received wide critical acclaim for her body of work and activism: https://www.myriamgurba.com.
