A Message from the Provost - March 13, 2020
March 13, 2020
During this quickly emerging COVID-19 situation, I want to pass along some useful strategies and resources. ATS has provided information that enables each staff member to have online access to all their work files. This also serves as a beneficial business continuity plan for Academic Affairs staff to be implemented in case of need.
Here is a recommended list of action items:
Create and distribute a list of employee cell phones in case of emergency.
Single Sign On (SSO) is a portal to online resources such as ZOOM, BeachBoard, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel without having to install it on your computer.
ZOOM is a video conferencing tool for remote meetings, online courses, and webinars. It’s a good resource for simulating face-to-face teaching or to accomplish synchronous online learning. All Faculty, Students and Staff have access to ZOOM via SSO.
Smart Phone Apps:
- SSO (OTKA)
- Microsoft Outlook
- ZOOM
- OneDrive
- Make sure you have important contacts saved in your address book
- Practice using the above applications
All CSULB employees have access to OneDrive. This file management system allows anyone to copy over the necessary files and give other parties owner access. It is safe and secure for all sensitive files, including level one data. OneDrive also allows the ability to store any kind of files; photos, video, and documents, and then access them from any of your Windows PCs or mobile devices. Here is a helpful ‘how to’ video.
Check campus voicemails from any location via the web interface. If you want your voicemail to be sent to your email, log into the web interface, go to notification settings, find email tab, check ‘include WAV attachment.’
People can use *67 before dialing a phone number on their cell phone in order to block the recipient from receiving their personal cell phone number if returning calls from the campus voicemail.
Secondary Emails
If you need to check secondary emails through the SSO Outlook chiclet. Here’s how:
Log in through SSO (csulb.okta.com):
Choose the Outlook chiclet:

In Outlook, click on your profile/account icon on the top right.

Choose “Open another mailbox”

Enter the email address that you are trying to access. It will probably start to auto-fill. Press enter.

Academic Technology Services (ATS) will maintain regular business hours and support operations to provide training to assist staff, as applicable, with moving to fully online modalities.
- Email: beachboard@csulb.edu
- After Hours: Calls are automatically forwarded to the D2L technical support desk
As always, check the COVID-19 website for ongoing information regarding campus-wide information as well as emails to campus. I again want to reiterate my gratitude for all you do for our campus community.
Best,

Brian Jersky
