Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) helps students meet the personal challenges associated with identifying and accomplishing academic, career, and life goals. Our services include short-term counseling for individuals, group counseling, career development counseling, referral services, psychoeducational workshops, and crisis intervention. Counseling is provided by mental health professionals and by advanced doctoral psychology interns under the supervision of licensed psychologists.

The Faculty & Staff Assistance Program, also known as FSAP, is a free, confidential resource to help you resolve personal, family, or work-related problems. Services provided by FSAP are available only by appointment and are at no cost to employees.

University Ombuds is an independent neutral resource for informal problem-solving. The office serves all members of the campus community - students, alumni/ae, faculty, staff, administrators, emeriti/ae, and retirees. People from the larger community may also bring campus-related problems to the attention of the Ombuds for discussion and resolution.

Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 (20 U.S.C. § 1681) is an all-encompassing federal law that prohibits discrimination based on the gender of students and employees in educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance. Best known for requiring gender equity in collegiate athletics, Title IX broadly prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any education program or activity. Sexual misconduct is viewed under the law as an extreme form of hostile environment/sexual harassment.

Title IX states, “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance” (20 U.S.C. § 1681).
