Policy Statement - 04-11 Science Education, Master of Science in, Option in Secondary Science Education

Master of Science in Science Education, 
Option in Secondary Science Education (code SCEDMS02)

This new option was recommended by the Academic Senate on October 28, 2004 
and approved by the President on November 30, 2004.

 

The Option in Secondary Science Education is aimed at teachers currently holding a Single Subject credential in Science. Graduate students enrolled in this option complete 9 units of graduate coursework in a Science discipline. The option is ideal for teachers interested in broadening their backgrounds in both Science and Science Education.

Students completing either option will be prepared to assume positions of greater science leadership at their schools or districts, or go on to further graduate study in science education.

Requirements

Six units from EDP 400, 419, 420, 500, 519, 520, 595; ETEC 623 (chosen in consultation with advisor)

Science Education core courses: SCED 550, 551, 552, 697

Science Courses: 9 units of graduate level science (chosen in consultation with advisor)

Thesis/Project: SCED 698
