Construction and Alignment: Making the Most out of Your Course Syllabi

Please RSVP to Lori Triana (Lori.Triana@csulb.edu or x 5-2351) by September 10

The Office of Program Review and Assessment is hosting the fourth annual workshop on Course Learning Outcomes on Friday, October 2 from 9:30 am – 2 pm at the Karl Anatol Center. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Workshop Facilitator: Sharlene Sayegh, Director, Program Review and Assessment

Geared towards the teaching novice and assessment guru alike, this workshop is designed to provide faculty with hands-on training to improve syllabus design through the adoption or adaptation of course learning outcomes. We will discuss the optimum number of outcomes for a course, how course learning outcomes align with program and institutional outcomes, and how well-articulated learning outcomes lead not only to improved student learning but to improved interdisciplinary discussions. Course outcomes provide roadmaps for student achievement at the end of the term and thus serve as benchmarks for assessing student learning.

The morning session will involve activities geared towards driving outcomes through the curriculum. During and after lunch, you will work on your syllabi or other material of your choosing with guidance from the workshop coordinator. If you have a laptop, please bring it to the session. Alternately, you may bring paper copies of your syllabus/syllabi.
