On behalf of the CSULB Black Alumni Scholars, thank to everyone that attended and/or donated to the 3rd Annual Black Alumni Scholarship Gala. We are a testament to the collective power of our community. We are truly one village with one purpose.

To date we have raised $90,000 which means we are just $10,000 shy of our goal. If you haven’t had a chance, there is still time to donate. Let’s not forget what we heard from our students. The challenges for our students are real. Take a look:

Date: Saturday, April 22, 2023
Time: 4pm – 8pm
Location: Ovation Square 350 Pine Ave, Long Beach, CA  90802 (Map)

Built in 1923 and located right in the heart of Downtown Long Beach, our beautiful event space was designed by Paul Revere William, one of the only black architects at that time. Originally used as the headquarter for the Bank of Italy and Bank of America, in 2004 the space transformed into what was formerly known as Vault 350, a popular concert venue carefully designed to host live music events.

"Before receiving this scholarship, I panicked about my future in college. As a student from a single-parent household, I feared that I might give up and drop out of college with the pressure of working two jobs and struggling to make time for education. However, this scholarship is a beacon of hope for my fight for education."

- Blossom Adanike

"I am currently majoring in School Psychology and maintaining a 4.0 GPA. Upon graduation, I plan to create a collaborative school-wide interventions that bridge the gap between public and private school education. I hope to give support to other Black scholars as I was supported when I needed it most.”

- David Ifediba

"I want to extend a very warm and sincere thank you to the donors of this scholarship. I am currently a graduate student in my Master of Social Work program with just one year left…Your generous donation will assist me in alleviating one of my largest barriers of navigating higher education: finances.”
