Bryan Crocketthas been an artist and Professor of Art in the Sculpture Program at CSULB since 2007. Over the years, he has served as the sole full-time faculty and Head of the Sculpture Program for ten years, as well as an Associate Director of the School of Art.
Dr. Richards Tutor serves as PI or Co-PI on four federally funded grants and is the Co-Director for the statewide Center to Close the Opportunity Gap. Her work focuses on preparing teachers and other educators to work with culturally and linguistically diverse students and academic supports for multilingual learners. Dr. Richards-Tutor has had her work published in multiple professional journals and most notably has a chapter published in the Handbook on Research in Special Education.
Dr. Rashida Crutchfield is a professor in the School of Social Work at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and Executive Director of the Center for Equitable Higher Education, which is a research center dedicated to studying and promoting economic, food, and housing justice. She is an advocate committed to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities through research and service. Prior to her work at CSULB, she served on the staff of Covenant House California, a shelter for 18-to-24-year-olds experiencing homelessness. This experience blossomed a passion to support this student population and grounds her commitment to student’s holistic success.
An expert in theoretical condensed matter physics, Dr. Bill has received multiple research grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other agencies. He has served as a senior scientist in the CSULB-Ohio State University Partnership for Research and Education in Materials (PREM) and has conducted research at institutions such as the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid and Université Paris-Saclay. His work has led to significant contributions in superconductivity, magnetism, and materials science with nearly 60 publications.
Hugh O’Gorman is an actor, director, author and teaching-artist active in professional theatre for over 40 years. Since 2002, he has been the Head of Acting at California State University, Long Beach, where he oversees the BA, BFA, and MFA actor training programs.
Hugh is the author of “Acting Action: A Primer For Actors” and “The Keys To Acting” and the forthcoming “The Art of Teaching The Art of Acting” from Routledge Publishing. He is a faculty member of MICHA: the Michael Chekhov Association, as well as MCE Michael Chekhov Europe, and runs his own acting studio in Los Angeles, The Praxis Studio. He is a Co-Executive Director of the National Alliance of Acting Teachers.
Maya joined the laboratory of Dr. Stephen Mezyk, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, initially working on research projects related to used nuclear fuel recycling. In her three years of undergraduate research, she achieved three peer-reviewed journal articles in this area, including one as the first-author. In these papers she collected her experimental data at two national Department of Energy laboratories, where she holds her own Visiting Scientist appointments, using their electron accelerator and laser facilities, analyzed these data, and then wrote full drafts and subsequent revisions of these manuscripts.
Dr. Rashida Crutchfield, a professor in the School of Social Work at Cal State Long Beach, is credited with significantly changing universities’ understanding of how housing and food insecurity create barriers to students’ success.
Hired in 2003 in the Department of Biological Sciences, Dr. Young committed early on to make her classroom and research laboratory student-centered. While she was recognized for her effective and innovative teaching and mentoring, Young strove for student success beyond students she worked with directly by creating learning communities for colleagues.
Throughout her 42-year tenure at California State University, Long Beach, Dr. Loucine Huckabay has been a strong supporter and advocate for all students, especially those from historically underserved backgrounds. She is well known for mentoring students struggling academically, or those whose home or work situations interfere with their academic success.
Nikki served as the 2024-2025 ASI President and Senator for the College of Liberal Arts.
