President's Commission on Economic and Workforce Development
This commission helps align our university’s strengths with the evolving economic and workforce needs of our students, our city and the broader region. The commission will gather campus and community practitioners focused on economic and workforce outcomes to advise the president on policies and practices the campus may employ as an anchor institution in Long Beach and the broader region.
Through strategic foresight and an innovative approach, the commission will help advance campus priorities centered on effective partnerships, inclusive economic growth and expanding the university’s role as a catalyst.
The commission’s work directly supports the California State University’s evolving Student Success Framework, which emphasizes clear pathways to careers or further education, applied learning opportunities that develop practical skills, and support for students in defining and achieving their academic and career goals.
The commission will serve as a strategic and collaborative space to integrate these objectives as it seeks to:
- guide initiatives that expand career opportunities and improve shared community spaces;
- promote partnerships that align academic curricula with industry needs;
- identify regional economic and workforce trends and advise on institutional responses;
- recommend and support innovative programs that benefit our students and the broader community; and
- form recommendations to guide CSULB’s role in regional economic and workforce development.
More information about membership, meeting schedules and ways to get involved will be shared soon.
