Basic Needs

Mission Statement: The CSULB Basic Needs department assists and immediately serves students who have been displaced, experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, an emergency, and/or a crisis. Basic Needs provides services and resources to remove barriers and empower students to persist and thrive in their educational journey towards academic success.

We are located in the University Student Union (USU) 112 and provide services to currently enrolled students who are experiencing the following crisis:

  • Sudden loss of housing, at risk of losing housing or facing eviction
  • Unsafe housing that is not conducive to learning
  • Limited food resources, struggling to afford groceries
  • Sudden loss of transportation
  • Sudden job loss
  • Sudden loss of childcare or childcare funds
  • Lost, stolen technology or school supplies required for class
  • Unexpected medical bills or required medical procedures out of student’s budget
