Research Mentor Workshops

We still have two more workshops presented by Dr. Malcolm Finney, our Multicultural Innovation Coordinator, this semester. The events are held at the Faculty Center for Professional Development, Library 5th floor. Attendance at one of these workshops will fulfill one of your faculty Build Mentoring Community (BMC) requirements. The workshops will also be offered in the Spring 2016 semester.

• Tuesday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m.-noon. Workshop 2: Empowering Underrepresented Students in a Diverse Classroom. Develop effective communication skills used to foster relationships with underrepresented students and empower them to achieve academic and professional success in STEM and related disciplines.

• Friday, Dec. 4, 1-3 p.m. Workshop 3: Effective Mentoring in a Multicultural Setting. Cultivate awareness of cross-cultural communication patterns and expectations as faculty mentors of students of diverse social, linguistic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Noteworthy

Congratulations to Dr. Stephen Mezyk and his postdoctoral fellow Dr. Gregory Horne, recipient of the Fall 2015 BUILD Postdoctoral Support Award!  The next cycle of postdoctoral fellow applications will be due Feb. 29, 2016!

The CSULB BUILD Program has started a BUILD LinkedIn group and is having all BUILD Scholars begin their own LinkedIn pages and portfolios.
