And now let us meet Wayne W. Murdy, the Distinguished Alumnus from the College of Business Administration. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration—marketing in 1969.

Wayne is the chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Newmont Mining Company. The Denver-based company is the world’s largest gold producer with a market capitalization of $20 billion, total assets exceeding $12 billion on five continents, and 13,500 employees worldwide.

He has been with Newmont since 1992, first serving as the senior vice president and chief financial officer. Prior to joining Newmont, he spent 15 years in senior financial positions in the oil and gas industry, first with Getty Oil Company and later with the Apache Corporation.

The Los Angeles native was elected to the board of directors of TransMontaigne, Inc., a U.S. refined petroleum products distribution and supply company based in Denver. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Denver Art Museum, the Manufacturing Council of the U.S. Dept. of Commerce, and The Catholic Foundation at Denver.

He and his wife Diana have been married for 36 years and they have four children and six grandchildren.
