Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Long Beach Transit (ret.)
1987, Master of Business Administration, CSULB
1973, Bachelor of Arts, Radio/Television/Film, CSULB
1971, Associate of Arts, Long Beach City College

A self-described “working-class kid from North Long Beach,” Guy Heston credits CSULB for giving him an educational experience that prepared him for his “dream job” with Long Beach Transit and for many years of distinguished public service to the community where he got his start.

Heston, who is currently the president of the Long Beach City College Foundation, retired from the public sector in 2010 after a remarkable 30-year career with Long Beach Transit.  Hired by the company as a marketing manager, Heston rose through the ranks and was eventually appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.  Under his leadership, Long Beach Transit received local and national awards; established permanent fare-free zones in downtown Long Beach; and instituted the highly popular U-Pass program for CSULB students, faculty, and staff.

Heston has been equally dedicated to his alma mater and to the California State University. He served for 10 years on the CSU Alumni Council, including two terms as President representing 3 million alumni.

He concurrently was on the CSULB Alumni Association board of directors, including two years as president.  Said retired CSU Assistant Vice Chancellor Karen Zamarripa, “There is no one who has given more time and devotion to the alumni and to all CSU students.”
