Preparing for Spring 2022
Spring 2022 to start Primarily AMI (Alternative Modes of Instruction)
President Conoley recently announced the delay of most face-to-face classes until Monday, February 7.
Please note the following:
- Spring 2022 courses begin Thursday, January 20.
- The announced period is a temporary switch to AMI for most courses. After this period of time, all courses will go back to their scheduled mode of instruction pending local health guidelines and recommendations.
- A small number of laboratories, activities, and performance classes will still be on-campus during this time. Please check how your individual courses are impacted by the temporary switch to AMI on Beachboard or email. If you need additional help, please contact your department.
- All buildings and labs will continue to be open during this time. The University Library, the University Student Union, and the Horn Center will be available for students who need to zoom or study on campus.
Due to the ever-changing situation, please check the campus COVID-19 website for the most up-to-date source of information.
All individuals must wear face coverings while indoors on campus. In light of the current surge of the Omicron variant, CDC has recommended that individuals upgrade from cloth masks to wearing a well-fitting medical-grade mask, surgical mask, or higher-level respirator such as an N-95, KN-95, or KF-94 filtering respirator. Student ambassadors will be on campus to help answer any questions you may have.
The clinic is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and should be accessed via the main entrance to Student Health Services. The clinic offers first, second doses and booster of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine to the campus community.
The university will soon require third shots, or booster shots, as part of its immunization policy. For more information, log into to Single Sign-On to view an instructional video on how to upload booster verification.

If you are not fully vaccinated, you must participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.
In addition all students in residence housing, student-athletes, and participating club-athletes are required to test weekly. Students in some performing arts may be required to test up to three times per week. Antigen tests are not being accepted at this time.
Those who require routine testing or are being tested due to a COVID-19 exposure in class, will be prompted routinely by email to upload test results to the website or a designated email address. Please follow the instructions noted in the email.
Failure to upload your test results will result in a referral to the Dean of Students (for students), and may ultimately result in disciplinary sanctions through Student Conduct. Faculty are not expected to make course accommodations for BeachBoard suspensions that occur due to the student’s failure to comply with University policies.

Plans are underway to expand testing availability for the Spring 2022 semester. Check the COVID-19 site for updates.
Per current CDC recommendations, people with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), followed by five additional days of wearing a medical grade mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter.
COVID Isolation and Quarantine Guidelines from LA County Public Health:
People who ARE fully vaccinated should wear a medical-grade mask around others (indoors and outdoors) and test on day 5. People who ARE NOT fully vaccinated should stay at home for 5 days and continue to wear a medical-grade mask around others (indoors and outdoors) for an additional 5 days, and test on day 5.
For the most recent updates regarding isolation and quarantine protocols please visit the CDC website here for more information..
