Faculty & Staff

Submit a referral if you notice:

  • Sudden drop in class attendance or performance
  • Significant changes in appearance, mood, or behavior
  • Expressions of hopelessness, distress, or unusual behavior
  • Disclosure of financial, housing, or food insecurity
  • Safety concerns for the student or others

If you’re unsure, refer. CARES will determine the best way to follow up.

Here’s what to expect after you submit a referral:

  • CARES reviews the information.
  • A staff member reaches out to the student.
  • CARES works with the student to connect them with resources and support.

Referrals are private. Information is only shared with staff who need to know in order to help.

When a student discloses they’re struggling:

  • Listen and validate their concerns.
  • Stay calm and reassure them that help is available.
  • Refer to CARES for follow-up and ongoing support.

Faculty and staff don’t have to handle crises alone. CARES provides consultation and training so you feel supported too.
