Black Alumni Scholarship Gala Recap
Thank You for Making the 5th Annual Black Alumni Scholarship Gala a Success!
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made the 5th Annual Black Alumni Gala, held on May 3, 2025, at the Petroleum Club, an unforgettable evening. Whether you sponsored, attended, donated, volunteered, or participated in any way, your contribution helped create a truly spectacular celebration. The energy in the room was electric, filled with joy, pride, and a deep sense of community. It was a privilege to witness our students begin to realize just how much love and support surrounds them. Your presence and generosity sent a powerful message: they are seen, valued, and uplifted by a strong and caring network. We are thrilled to share that this year’s event raised over $127,00.00—a new record for the Gala!
We are especially grateful to the university administration for their unwavering support of this community. A heartfelt thank you goes to our outgoing President, Dr. Jane Close Conoley, whose leadership has left a lasting legacy; Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. Beth Lesen; Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Karyn Scissum-Gunn; and Associate Vice President of Student Success & Engagement, Dr. Daria Graham. Your commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering environment has made all the difference. Watching alumni connect with students and celebrate their achievements was a powerful reminder of how vital community is—on campus and beyond. We also extend our sincere appreciation to our host, Coach LaTanya Sheffield, and our keynote speaker, Carl Kemp, for lending their voices, energy, and inspiration to the evening. A very special thank you goes to my co-chairman, Paul Carter, and our incredible Black Scholars Team: Monet Jenkins, Z'nya Spears, Emmanuel Okereke, Dijon Higgins, Ralston Lewars, Cherise Jackson, and LeRon Cook. Your dedication, creativity, and hard work brought this vision to life. We also deeply appreciate the tireless efforts of the Black Alumni Scholarship Gala Committee: Curglin Robertson, Tiffany Robertson, Kathyann King, Cheryl Crumble, Imani Moses, Yolanda Elam, and David Roman. And to all the students who volunteered their time and energy—thank you. This event was a true reflection of what we can accomplish when we come together in the spirit of unity, pride, and purpose.
