CSULB Becomes 1 of 27 Institutions Nationwide to Earn Both Research 2 and Opportunity Colleges and Universities Carnegie Classification Designations
The American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching recently announced that CSULB is among 27 institutions nationwide that earned both the Research 2 (R2) and the new Opportunity Colleges and Universities (OCU) Carnegie Classification designations.
CSULB shares this recognition with four other CSU institutions in both the Research 2 and Opportunity Colleges and Universities categories:
- Cal Poly Pomona
- Fresno State
- Cal State Long Beach
- Cal State LA
- Sacramento State
The R2 designation recognizes universities with high research spending and doctorate production. CSULB and 8 other CSU campuses are among 139 institutions across the country to receive the R2 designation.
The OCU designation recognizes universities as national leaders in advancing student success with strong access and high earnings outcomes. CSULB and 14 other CSU campuses are among 479 institutions across the country to receive the OCU designation.
Congratulations to The Beach for this significant and rare dual designation that represents our collective efforts to advance research and serve our students in and out of the classroom.
