Cal State Long Beach Selected for IIE American Passport Project

Published June 5, 2025

Cal State Long Beach is proud to announce its selection for this year’s IIE American Passport Project. The university will receive a grant to assist first-year students who are Pell grant eligible in obtaining a U.S. passport. The Office of International Education and Global Engagement will select 25 students to receive their passports, in coordination with the campus passport office.

The Institute of International Education (IIE) annually awards grants to U.S. colleges and universities through the American Passport Project. This initiative is part of IIE’s mission to promote international education and exchange, ensuring that more students can benefit academically and professionally from international experiences.

Dr. Jeet Joshee, Associate Vice President for the Office of International Education and Global Engagement, shared, “Getting a U.S. Passport is often the first step towards participating in study-abroad programs. Many CSULB students have not traveled outside of the country and have never thought of applying for a passport. With this initiative, we hope to incentivize our students to think about global learning opportunities they have through study-abroad.”

CSULB’s primary goal with this grant is to facilitate international experiences for our students as part of their post-secondary education.
