Confronting Hateful Narratives

Dear Beach Community: I grew up in the 1950s with the axiom, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” I know the message meant well; don’t react to taunts or insults, just ignore. As decades have passed, however, I’ve learned that words do hurt especially when they are used to stereotype groups of people. The recent Court of Appeals DACA decision

Yesterday, a federal appeals court ruled the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy violates U.S. immigration law. The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals concluded the Obama Administration did not have the legal authority to create DACA in 2012, and it affirmed an earlier ruling that barred the current administration from enrolling any new immigrants in the program.
