In the spring of 2023, all CSULB faculty were surveyed regarding their perceptions of workload as well as the extent to which policies around various aspects of workload were transparent and equitable. The results of this baseline survey can be found here:CSULB IFWEL Baseline Survey
Beginning in spring 2023 and continuing through the present, project staff are working with faculty facilitators and department chairs in STEM departments in three colleges (CNSM, CLA, and COE) to guide faculty as they discuss workload issues, analyze available data, identify areas for improvement, and develop “equity action plans” to address those areas.
In spring 2024, the project team offered a series of professional development workshops, Beach Time, open to all faculty and exploring a variety of strategies for tracking and managing workload. In partnership with the Faculty Center, we anticipate repeating this series in Spring 2025.
We are partnering with Institutional Research and Analysis to develop dashboards that would display credited faculty work assignments, including courses taught and assigned time. Meanwhile, some of our participating departments are developing ways to display other components of workload, especially committee service, to members of their departments.
