Chalmers ’83, Mora ’93 and Price ’05 join Long Beach State Foundation
Three leaders in marketing and publishing, finance and restaurants have recently joined the Long Beach State Foundation Board of Directors.
P. Laurén Chalmers ‘83 is a former advertising and publishing executive who has worked with major firms and fast-food restaurants, as well as several national magazines. The Laurén Chalmers ‘83 Beach Pantry on campus bears her name in honor of her philanthropic support for this important student resource.
Edward Mora ’93 is a senior wealth management executive with over 30 years of financial services experience with top 10 banks, a Big Four consulting practice and boutique wealth management firms.
Steve Price ‘05 is the co-founder and chief development officer for the Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar chain.
The three were elected to the board during its meeting on July 2, and will each serve a three-year term that continues through June 30, 2029.
“I’m excited to join this distinguished foundation board at Long Beach State,” said Mora, who graduated from CSULB with a bachelor’s degree in business administration/finance. He has since worked as a director or officer for several respected financial firms and was named one of Orange County’s 500 most influential business leaders in 2023 through 2025 by the O.C. Business Journal. He’s currently senior vice president of private wealth management at U.S. Bank.
“As an alumnus and longtime supporter of the College of Business and athletics, I am able to increase my engagement with the university but more importantly help guide our efforts to support great student outcomes,” he said.
Over the past two decades, Price has helped grow the Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar from an idea in 2003 into a franchise that now boasts 51 eateries in eight states.
“As a Long Beach resident and an alum, joining this board feels like coming full circle,” said Price, who obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in finance. “This university changed the trajectory of my life, and it does the same for thousands of students every year. I'm excited to help grow the resources behind that mission by expanding scholarships, strengthening the endowment, and widening the doorway of opportunity so the next generation of Beach graduates can go on to serve our community and our country the way generations before them have.”
After graduating with a degree in marketing from CSULB, Chalmers spent 25 years in advertising at Los Angeles firms. She then worked for four years in promotions for McDonald’s via Simon Marketing, developing popular games for adults (like Monopoly) and Happy Meal promotions, influencing children’s promotions throughout the industry.
She then pivoted to publishing, spending 12 years in magazines and serving as the West Coast sales director for national magazines at Condé Nast, Time Inc., Weider Health and Fitness, Inc. and Hearst Magazines.
Chalmers is well known at The Beach, having given generously to the Division of Student Affairs, Basic Needs and to Beach Pantry, which was named after her in 2024. She is a member of the university’s Carillon Society.
“I am honored to give back and make a difference in students’ lives,” Chalmers said. “Supporting CSULB is both a privilege and a pleasure, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help shape a brighter future for our students.”
The Long Beach State Foundation supports students and programs through the management of private support and the stewardship of donors. Founded in 1956, the foundation also manages the university’s endowment.
