Dennis Hum ‘06 joins Long Beach State Foundation
Dennis Hum ’06, vice president of community relations and business development at JPMorgan Chase, has joined the Long Beach State Foundation Board of Directors. He describes his election to the board as “a full-circle moment.”
Hum has over 15 years of experience in banking, civic engagement and community development. At JPMorgan Chase, he focuses on advancing inclusive economic growth and supporting small businesses, entrepreneurs and local institutions across diverse communities.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in management from the College of Business at CSULB, where he served as a member of the Leadership Academy at The Beach. He was also an ambassador for Long Beach’s Regional Occupational Program, and an active volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and the American Heart Association while at The Beach.
“CSULB shaped so much of who I am personally, professionally and as a community leader,” he said. “Giving back in this way is a chance to invest in the next generation, support the university’s growth, and ensure that students continue to have access to opportunities that were once pivotal for me. I believe deeply in the mission of upward mobility and inclusive excellence, and I want to help ensure that our students not only graduate but also succeed on campus and beyond.”
Hum is an inaugural honoree in the CSULB 49 Under 49 award program, which recognizes alumni who have made significant contributions in improving and uplifting their communities and beyond. He also participated in a 49er Industry Chat in May 2024 and has served as a CSULB alumni engagement advocate since January 2024.

He said he hopes “to bring a blend of business strategy, community connection and heart” to the Long Beach State Foundation board. “My goal is to bridge the opportunity between the university and the real world, whether that’s through corporate partnerships, student engagement, or storytelling that amplifies the incredible things happening at CSULB.”
Prior to JPMorgan Chase, Hum held leadership roles at Union Bank and Wachovia Bank, earning Top Manager National awards.
Outside his professional work, Hum serves as vice chair of the Long Beach Center for Economic Inclusion and on the City Commission for the Port of Long Beach, where he helps drive initiatives focused on equity, community wellness, small business, food access and digital inclusion. He is also an advisor to and former board member of the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce.
Hum was elected by the foundation Board of Directors during its meeting on June 25. His term started July 1 and will continue through June 30, 2028.
The Long Beach State Foundation supports students and programs through the management of private support and the stewardship of donors. Founded in 1956, the foundation also manages the university’s endowment.
