Workshops & Events

Workshops hosted by the Graduate Center are open to the entire CSULB campus community, including undergraduate and graduate students, as well as the general public. So, if you are interested in a workshop, please register below.

Note: There are no upcoming workshops for the remainder of the Spring 2024 semester (the last one occurred on 4/30). But students can still request appointments for writing support or for support with grad school applications. We wish everyone a successful finals season, and we look forward to seeing you at future events in the summer and fall!

Summer 2024

June

When: Wednesday, June 26, 10:00am – 7:00pm
Where: Library 2nd Floor

Description: The Graduate Writing Retreat is a full-day writing "get-away" for graduate or post-bac
students to make progress on a major writing task over the summer semester. Writing tasks can include a thesis, seminar paper, dissertation, comps, independent study, class project, or any writing work that requires
sustained focus. The Retreat will take place in the “Graduate Student Collaborative Space” (University
Library 202), which will be closed to non-attendees, creating a quiet, distraction-free setting. The Graduate
Center will also be serving refreshments, including lunch and dinner (the registration form below gives the
option to indicate dietary restrictions). Furthermore, Graduate Center staff, including the Graduate Writing
Specialist, will be on hand all day to answer questions or help you overcome writing “roadblocks.” The
event is free and open to all currently-enrolled graduate/post-bac students, but registration is required.

The deadline to register is Tuesday, June 18th, at 11:59pm, to ensure a proper food and beverage order.

Register for this event.

The workshops assist students with content on all three sections of the GRE exam: Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing.

Registered students must purchase the following GRE textbook prior to the first workshop session: “The Official Guide to the GRE General Test, 3rd Edition” (ISBN: 9781259862410) by the Educational Testing Services (ETS). The book is available for purchase online (e.g., Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, or directly from ETS) for approximately $30. It is available new, used, or in an electronic version such as Kindle.
