Chris Lowe, director of Cal State Long Beach's Shark Lab, appeared live in the Fox 11 news studio to discuss the unusually large number of stingrays along the Southern California coast and how beachgoers can reduce their risk of being stung. Lowe recommended doing the "stingray shuffle"—shuffling your feet along the sand instead of taking normal steps—when entering the water to encourage stingrays to swim away before stepping on them.
