Professor Invites Youth to Experience Democracy Through the Budget Process

Gary Hytrek, professor of geography at Cal State Long Beach, spoke with the Long Beach Business Journal about the city’s first participatory budget process and the inclusion of youth and young adults in its development. Professor Hytrek, who serves as a consultant and advisor, believes the participatory budget process “is one of the most effective ways to deepen and broaden democracy within communities.”
