Joyce Liu-Countryman

Joyce Liu-Countryman is a BIPOC independent producer whose midlife pivot into filmmaking followed earlier careers as a research psychologist, DEI consultant, and professional actor. Raised by a blue-collar single dad in San Francisco, she believes deeply in the power of cinema to uplift the voices of the marginalized and to create positive social change.

Her slate champions intersectional narratives and documentary that defy stereotypes, with credits including A Family Guide to HuntingEat With Me, and The Greatest Night in Pop. Her work has screened at Sundance, Tribeca, Frameline, Outfest, Urbanworld, and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, and streams on Netflix, Peacock, HBO Max, and Amazon Prime.

At Disney and Pixar, her original short-form content has garnered over 167 million views. During her tenure in film marketing at Sony Pictures Entertainment, she managed the testing of Oscar-nominated titles including Little Women and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Joyce holds an MFA in Producing from AFI Conservatory, an MS in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BA from UCLA. She is a member of both the Television Academy (Emmys) and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (Oscars), Film Independent, Project Involve Creative Executive alumna, a thesis advisor at AFI, teaches cinematic arts at Cal State Long Beach, and has served SAG-AFTRA on various committees.
