Ben Hagedorn, a professor of geology in the Department of Earth Science at Cal State Long Beach, and his research assistant, Teddy Custodio, were featured in Maven’s Notebook for their research on how saltwater intrusion into groundwater can bring hazardous chemicals to the surface. Their work produced a series of maps identifying areas in California where rising groundwater could force contaminants upward, creating potential public health risks.
