California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) has planned an event to memorialize student Nohemi Gonzalez who was killed in the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.

The event will be open to the public beginning at 4 pm in the University Student Union Ballroom. Parking on campus is free. Among those speaking will include President Jane Close Conoley, Jose Salazar, President of Associated Students Inc. and Martin Herman, chair of the CSULB dept. of design. Additionally, the Bob Cole Conservatory Choir will perform. Upon completion of the speakers, a candlelight vigil will take place on Friendship Walk.

Gonzalez, 23, was a CSULB senior studying design and attending Strate College of Design in Paris during a semester abroad program. There were a total of 17 CSULB students studying abroad this semester in France. All other students have been reported safe.

"Taking the life of an innocent is an assault on our hearts and on our world. Nohemi was an innocent of great promise, a light in our community,” said Conoley. “We gather today to honor and to mourn Nohemi by sharing our remembrances of her and our love for her. While today’s vigil is focused on Nohemi and her cherished family, friends, and professors, we can’t help but experience the anguish felt by all those people of good will around the world suffering after these tragic attacks. Our hearts are one."
