Marilyn Bohl obtained her teaching credential from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, and a B.S. Mathematics from the University of Northern Iowa. In 2001, Luther College honored Marilyn with the Luther College Distinguished Service Award. She is a twin to sister Arline Walter, also a friend and supporter of CSULB. Gifts from the sisters helped to transform the gymnasium in Iowa where they played basketball into a multifunction Community Center named in honor of their father. Marilyn also supported her alma mater by establishing an endowed scholarship at Luther College.
Marilyn led database software design and development at IBM’s Santa Teresa Lab in the Bay Area for more than a decade. She was also Sr. VP and Chief Technology Officer with two startup companies – Ingres and Dynasty. Additionally, she has authored nine college texts in the computing field, many of which have been published in multiple editions and translated into multiple languages for widespread use. She continues active in church and YMCA board and committee activities. She is a founding sponsor of The562 Network, a nonprofit providing Long Beach sports and community news coverage throughout the Greater Long Beach area.
Marilyn is a strong advocate of the campus and the 49er Athletics program. She’s a widely recognized attendee at most Long Beach State basketball and baseball home games. After funding an endowed scholarship for LBSU men’s basketball, Marilyn chose to support the Dirtbag baseball program by funding major renovations at Blair Field. She is a Carillion Society member and has received the highest award for her philanthropic support of CSULB.
