Future Residents

Welcome to Student Housing at The Beach!  Once you’ve been admitted to the university, you’re encouraged to apply for Student Housing as soon as possible. Please keep in mind that housing is not guaranteed, so we recommend reviewing all details carefully before applying.

2026-2027 Academic Year Housing Application 

  • Current Residents: Defined as students who are currently residing on campus with Student Housing
  • New Applicants: Refer to incoming freshmen and transfers, or any students who are applying for the first time with Student Housing, regardless of class level.
  • Returning Applicants: Defined as students who have previously been on-campus residents but are not currently in Student Housing. 

New Application Window:
  • Thursday, April 2nd at 10 AM PST - Friday, May 1st at 11:59 PM PST (Priority Deadline)
How to Apply:
  • Step 1 - You must be admitted to the university and have set-up a MyCSULB account.
    • You cannot apply for housing if you are currently waitlisted to CSULB.
  • Step 2 - Begin housing application on the Housing Portal (accessible through your MyCSULB SSO)
    • Application will take 15-20 minutes to complete.
    • Due to high demand, the application portal may not be available on your first attempt.
    • Since applications are based on distance, students can apply any date and time between April 2 and priority date of May 1st.
    • If you are applying before May 1st, the application is not first-come, first serve. If you are experiencing portal issues, try again later.
  • Step 3Complete the Initial Payment of $275 along with the Non-Refundable Application fee of $50. Payment is required to complete the application.
New Applicant Housing Confirmation Process:
  • All applications received before May 1st will be prioritized based upon distance to campus.
  • There are approximately 3000 beds for new students at CSULB. The 3000 students at the greatest distance from campus with completed applications by May 1st will receive housing priority.
  • If you apply by May 1st but our initial capacity has been reached due to the distance calculator, you may be placed on the waitlist. All applications received after May 1st will be placed on a waitlist based upon date of application.
  • As spaces become available throughout the summer and early Fall, students will be contacted and offered placement.

Current Resident Window:
  • Tuesday, March 17th at 10 AM - Thursday, March 19th at 11:59 PM PST.
  • Students complete the online application through the Housing Portal (accessible through your MyCSULB SSO)
  • A $275 Initial Payment along with a $50 Non-Refundable Application fee is required to complete the application.
Current Resident Housing Confirmation Process:
  • All completed applications will be randomized.
    • The first 700 students in random generated list will be granted a space in housing.
  • All remaining students will be placed on a Paid Continuing waitlist based upon their order in the randomized system.
  • Paid Continuing waitlist confirmations are based on the number of Continuing cancellations.

  • Opens Monday, May 4th at 10 AM PST.
  • Students complete the online application through the Housing Portal (accessible through your MyCSULB SSO)
  • A $275 Initial Payment along with a $50 Non-Refundable Application fee is required to complete the application.

All completed returning resident applicants’ applications will be placed on Paid waitlist by date of completion.

2026 Summer Housing

Summer Housing Application Opens: April 15 @ 10AM
  • Summer Housing is available only to those who are enrolled in courses with in-person components for their course work
  • A full payment for the session you are applying for is due to complete the application
  • The costs listed below are for a Double room and include the 21-Meal Plan (21 meals a week)
12-Week Session (Full Session) - $5,436Classes -Tuesday, May 26 - Friday, August 14

Move Out Day: Friday, August 14, 8am -11am
1st 6-Week Session (Session 1) - $2,718Classes - Tuesday, May 26 - Thursday, July 2

2nd 6-Week Session (Session 2) - $2,718Classes - Monday, July 06 - Friday, August 14
Move In Day: Sunday, July 05, Noon-5pm
Move Out Day: Friday, August 14, 8am - 11am

Note Before Applying:

  • There is no requirement to live on campus
  • Housing is not guaranteed as bedspaces are limited
  • The Student Housing application comes with a $275 initial payment along with a $50 non-refundable application fee
  • The Student Housing application process is not first-come, first-serve
    • New Applicants are prioritized by farthest distance from campus first.
    • Returning Applicants will be entered into a lottery system for random selection.
  • Students not confirmed for housing (new or returning) will have the opportunity to continue on a paid waitlist 

All official communication from Student Housing will be sent to your CSULB student email address. We recommend checking this email every 1-2 days as many messages contain important, time-sensitive information.
