CARES Act Student Funding

Published April 28, 2020

Dear Beach Community:

The university has been identified as a beneficiary of funding through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, which was signed into law to provide financial assistance during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Much of this forthcoming funding is intended for direct aid to students, and we are currently working with the Chancellor's Office and awaiting guidance from the Department of Education to develop protocols and procedures for disbursement of these funds.

This aid joins the other efforts we've made this semester to support Beach students during what has been a difficult time. Our alumni and friends, too, have stepped in to further bolster our Student Emergency Fund through a special fundraising campaign. It's been remarkably rewarding to see the Beach spirit so strong.

This new CARES Act funding will allow all students to receive a distribution, but we will develop a program that is particularly responsive to those who have experienced a loss of employment or other financial support, loss of housing, food insecurity, loss of transportation, or medical expenses.

As soon as we receive final information that will inform our own program here at The Beach, we will move to deliver this aid to students as soon as reasonably possible. We will also develop a spending plan for other institutional funding intended to assist the university with costs incurred because of the pandemic, as well as any additional programmatic initiatives appropriate for our ongoing response.

I remain with you united as One Beach.
