Call for Docent Volunteers

Carolyn Campagna Kleefeld Contemporary Art Museum at California State University Long Beach is accepting applications through June 2021 for docent volunteers. Docents will play a vital role as our stunning, newly remodeled building reopens in 2022 with five new compelling exhibitions, ongoing tours, classes, workshops, and events. See flyer here.

We have opportunities for docents to fill several vital volunteer positions:

  • Concierge volunteers to greet and welcome visitors and provide helpful information to assure a hospitable visit.
  • Touring and engagement leaders to lead and assist with tours that encourage a  meaningful experience with exhibitions and sculptures for groups of all ages.
  • Museum teachers to lead or assist with hand-on art lessons and workshops in our new education lab to enrich the creative process.
  • Outreach teachers to teach art lessons as part of our K12 classroom outreach in the classroom or via the internet to local students.

Our friendly and dedicated group of docent volunteers receive ongoing training in contemporary art history and touring and engagement strategies at our bi-weekly meetings.   Docents become familiar with the museum’s collection of contemporary art and sculpture as well as upcoming exhibitions from guest speakers and staff presentations.

Please contact christina.alegria@csulb.edu to apply and learn about this enriching opportunity.  No previous experience is required—just a desire to study and share the wonder of contemporary art with our visitors!
