Carlos Alberto Mendez Velazquez is a DACAmented filmmaker born in Mexico City, residing in Los Angeles, CA since three years of age. Carlos has worked on live television shows, news stations, directed live sport events, animation documentaries and short films.
Carlos is a first generation college graduate, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Film and Television studies in 2016 from CSULB. His filmography has won Best Picture awards under campus film festivals and his work has been recognized in a variety of media outlets; such as, Univision, Telemundo, EFE, Uproxx, La Opinion and many others. He has dedicated his filmography to telling the stories of the undocumented community. Carlos is the founder of UndocuCinema, an organization dedicated to advocate and support undocumented artists in the film and television industry.
His current filmography includes the short Documentary film 'Con Mascaras y Sin Papeles' ‘Sin Riaz’ , ’La Pared Humana’ and his first stop motion animation project 'Encaged Love', all have been awarded film festival recognition. His new live action film MONARCA is set to premiere next year.
While directing Carlos also takes on the roll of a producer, producing animation, live action and commercial work throughout his career. Short films such as, ‘Drifting on a Memory’ Directed by Angel Ruvalcaba, ‘Mosca’ Directed by Davin Duhamel, ‘Roots’ Dir by Sandra Suarez. Carlos has also produced commercial work for McDonald’s of Southern California and Commercial work the BMO stadium.
Carlos also works in promoting and uplifting new and up coming musicians here in Los Angeles directing Music Videos and media coverage for their events. Musical artist include ‘La Santa Cecilia’ ‘Carlos y Charlos’, ‘Boleros de Noche’, ‘ Las Chorizeras’ and many more.
His versatile rage of mediums in the film industry has allowed him to work in in different creative arenas. As he forms part of a non profit organization LXIA ( Latinx In Animation) that advocated for inclusion in 2D,3D, gaming and all facets of animation. He hopes to continue to uplift this medium and fight for inclusion in all aspects of cinema, in front and behind the camera.
