Chemistry (CHEM) - S/I Leaders
Chemistry
Matilda Engelson
Major: Biochemistry
Matilda is a Biochemistry major from Seattle, WA. She hopes to pursue medical school after undergrad and understands that a good foundation in chemistry is important to succeed in any scientific field. She hopes to pass on her love for chemistry and good study habits to her SI class. In her free time, she enjoys running and catching late-night movies.
Zachary Sarsaba
Major: Molecular Cell Biology and Physiology
Zachary is a Molecular Cell Biology and Physiology student previously on the pre-nursing track and is now planning to major in Biochemistry. He became an SI Leader because he understands that science classes can feel intimidating, and he wants to show students that with the right study tactics and a genuine sense of curiosity, learning chemistry can not only become easier but also enjoyable. He is passionate about sciences and loves understanding how the natural world works on a fundamental level. In his spare time, he enjoys lifting, running, and diving into random rabbit holes of science topics while listening to K-pop and K-RnB. His ultimate career goal is to attend medical school and become a doctor, with aspirations of becoming a surgeon.
Ella McRae
Major: Biology
Ella is a Biology major from Redondo Beach, CA, who hopes to attend nursing school after graduation. She became an SI Leader to help students get better resources to excel in their coursework. In her free time, she enjoys dancing and staying active.
Samantha Nguyen
Major: Pre-Nursing
Samantha is a Pre-Nursing major who plans to pursue a Master of Science in Nursing and become a Family Nurse Practitioner. As someone who once found Chemistry challenging, she became an SI Leader because she enjoys helping others succeed academically and hopes to help students develop a greater appreciation for the subject, just like she did. Outside of academics, she loves photography and listening to music.
Pau Lao
Major: Pre-Nursing
Pau is a Pre-Nursing major from Culver City, CA. She became an SI Leader because she wants to help guide students through challenging academic moments and serve as a support system both inside and outside the classroom. From personal experience, she knows how overwhelming it can feel to not understand a concept right away or to feel like you’re falling behind your peers, especially in a rigorous course like CHEM 140! She hopes to support students, encourage them, and remind them that they are capable of succeeding!
Lea Vinculado
Major: Pre-Nursing
Lea is a Pre-Nursing student from Walnut, CA. She hopes to become a pediatric nurse in the future. She enjoys going to concerts, baking, hanging out with friends, and of course the beach. She became an SI leader to build a community among students and help them succeed in their time at CSULB.
Savannah Gonzalez
Major: Biology
Savannah is a Biology major with a concentration in Education and is pursuing a minor in Environmental Science & Policy. She became an SI Leader because she wants to help students become more confident in their academic abilities by showing them that challenging concepts become much clearer when working collaboratively. Her goal after graduation is to continue helping students learn by becoming a science teacher. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, swimming, and listening to music.
