National First-Generation College Celebration Day

CSULB will observe the National First-Generation College Celebration Day on November 8 in honor of the Higher Education Act of 1965. Join us for a series of workshops, speakers, and interactive activities to honor and celebrate the experiences of our first-generation students.

Meet & Greet with First Gen Faculty & Staff

  • Time: 10:00am-11:30am
  • Location: Office of Multicultural Affairs Conference Room - FO3 Room 002
  • Description: Stop by to meet and greet with CSULB faculty and staff who identify as first-generation students. Free coffee, hot chocolate, and pastries will be provided.

First Gen Celebration Keynote

  • Time: 12:00pm-12:45pm
  • Location: Beach Auditorium
  • Keynote Speaker: Valerie Gomez

As a first-gen, community college graduate, UCLA & CSULB alumni, Future Doctora Valerie Gomez shares her story to inspire students of color and others to pursue education. Valerie created a blog and digital community called a A Latina’s Guide to Grad School to provide students with information about graduate school, celebrating the stories of current and former graduate and professional students, and building a community of support for Latinas.

  • Description: Join us for an alumni panel discussion to raise awareness of the struggles and successes of First Gen experiences.

First Gen Dress for Success

  • Time: 2:15pm-3:15pm
  • Location: Beach Auditorium
  • Description: Come learn how to dress for success and feel confident in your workplace attire. This workshop will be facilitated by Sarah Buford from Enterprise Holdings.

First Gen Day Campus Celebration

  • Time: 3:30pm-5:30pm
  • Location: USU Ballroom
  • Description: Join us for the First Gen Day campus celebration! Activities will include games, photobooth, bowling, student resource fair and more. FREE food and First Gen t-shirts and swag while supplies last.
