COVID-19 Crisis Leads to Financial Pressures

As a consequence of the coronavirus pandemic, there are emerging pressures on the state budget for 2020-21, and new non-faculty hiring will be carefully assessed and slowed in anticipation of cutbacks. In addition, purchases and commitments should be limited to those absolutely necessary to complete the current semester.

CSULB Stands Ready During Pandemic

Through the Chancellor’s Office, the university has been working with government agencies to identify available CSULB facilities and other resources should they become needed during the COVID-19 crisis, consistent with our Beach value of advancing the public good. Should any CSULB facility be used in the future, the sponsoring government agency would provide their own staff.

Supporting Students Through #OneBeach

President Jane Close Conoley helped launch a new effort this week to bolster the Emergency Student Fund through a special BeachFunder webpage to support students facing particular hardships as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Succession Plans in Place

In the interest of utmost preparedness, succession plans are in place for the university‘s executive team should any member of campus leadership fall ill.

Cashiers Continue to Serve Campus

The cashier window is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. All of Student Financial Services is available by phone or email Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.

“Flattening the Curve” Video Message

President Jane Close Conoley and Dr. Kimberly Fodran, Interim Co-Director Student Health Services and Chief of Medical Staff, shared a video message with students, faculty, staff and the community offering guidance for flattening the curve of COVID-19 infection.

Endowment Income Information Distributed

Those colleges, departments, and programs with accounts held by the CSULB 49er Foundation have received information about account balances as of January 31, 2020, and revenue from the endowment that will be distributed to each account through June 30, 2021.

Implementation of Microsoft Teams

Accelerating technology plans to meet high demand, The Division of Information Technology has implemented Microsoft Teams for students, faculty and staff. The app makes it easier for groups to collaborate remotely and integrates with CSULB’s Microsoft software suite.

Faculty and Staff Urged to Follow New Zoom Safeguards

With increased use of the video-conferencing tool Zoom, it's important to keep in mind safeguards to prevent the new phenomenon of “Zoom-bombing.”
