Message on immigration enforcement
Dear Beach Community,
I am sure some of you are aware of immigration enforcement activities in Los Angeles and surrounding communities. While we are not currently aware of immigration activities in Long Beach, university leadership and University Police are monitoring these events carefully.
Before you are a scholar, employee or educator, you are a human being, and this is a distressing time in our community. Your physical and mental wellbeing are our primary concerns and our campus strives to be a welcoming place where everyone can work, live, and learn in a safe environment. The University provides a number of resources on the Enforcement Actions page including references to legal and mental health services available. Guidance for both faculty and staff as well as students can be found there.
Should you choose to join a protest, please remain peaceful. It is vital that you peacefully observe your Constitutional right to assembly without creating opportunities for action to be taken against you.
As a reminder the University does not share information about immigration status, religion, nationality, ethnicity or any other personal information with anyone – including law enforcement – without a student or employee’s express permission unless presented with a warrant, court order, or other legally binding requirement.
As always, we remain dedicated to the health and wellbeing of every member of the Beach Community and their families.
Jane Close Conoley, Ph.D.
