Learning Curve
I’m finally here full time, in person, and it feels great.
Despite being co-located for two weeks, I’ve had a chance to meet some alumni, alumni parents, community members, neighbors, student leadership, elected officials, and lots of staff and faculty. It’s been a pleasure to hear about what we do well and where we might improve. My transition to this great university is enhanced through this input.
I’ve also been walking around campus to familiarize myself with where everything is, and I’ve had a chance to tie a ribbon to our newest piece of public art, MatterApp: Pyramidial. Check that out near the Walter Pyramid.
If you see me, come up and introduce yourself. I’d appreciate your walking me to your favorite spot so I can enjoy the special beauty of The Beach. I’ll be talking to and learning from additional groups and individuals over the next several weeks, hoping to touch base with many of you: students, faculty, staff, alumni, community partners and friends. These meetings will enrich my transition, providing multiple perspectives on our current functioning and aspirational goals. Despite generous input from Don Para and many others from last February through June, I know I have a lot to learn.
If you want to speak with me, please contact my office. In addition, I’ll be arranging informal no-appointment-needed times across campus once I learn how to find my way around. Check out my Twitter feed (@PresConoley) to find out when you might take a walk with me or meet me in a small group for a cup of coffee/tea/water (my treat). I’ll make myself available this way as often as possible.
New beginnings built on a solid history are exciting.
