Political analyst explains the reasons a politician might choose to delay announcing their candidacy.

Matt Lesenyie, assistant professor of political science at Cal State Long Beach, spoke with KNX News Radio about why Governor Gavin Newsom has not formally announced a presidential campaign. Lesenyie explained that announcing too early offers little advantage since no votes are yet at stake. It can instead make a potential candidate a target for political opponents and interest groups.
