Associate professor leads effort to increase the number of Black teachers

Jolan Smith, an associate professor in Advanced Studies in Education and Counseling at Cal State Long Beach, was featured in the Long Beach Post for leading a comprehensive effort to address the shortage of Black teachers. Through scholarships, after-school programs, mentoring and professional networks, Smith recruits, supports and prepares aspiring educators while helping strengthen representation and belonging in Long Beach schools.
