Living a 'Dream'

Hours before the young bride-to-be is set to marry, she suddenly is troubled by her lack of cultural knowledge. How does her Mexican heritage factor into her nuptials to an undocumented immigrant, Jonathan, who is an Afro-Latino.

The woman, Lisa, knows her parents don’t approve of her marrying someone with darker skin, but what does her community think?

In the play “Mainstream the Dream”, Lisa finds answers from the various images on her wall that come to life to help her understand her place in Mexican traditions and cultures.

Written and directed by former students Tahirih Moeller and Ashley Zachary, the original production was the final on-campus event celebrating Latinx Heritage Month held Tuesday at the Cal State Long Beach USU Ballrooms.

Moeller and Zachary have partnered on three previous minority-centered productions by Up & Coming Actors at CSULB – “People of Color Project”, “A Sense of Hope: Then and Now” and “No Happy Color.”

The actors who performed in “Mainstream the Dream” were Hilda Stacey Patino, Brittney Rodriquez, Esella Ibarra, Robert Hart and Christopher Blonski.
