Convocation Kicks off New School Year

President Conoley will share her vision for the upcoming school year Friday at the annual Convocation, an event that not only officially kicks off the start of school but recognizes new faculty.

In addition to new Provost Brian Jersky, the university will welcome Min Yao, the school’s first CIO, new dean of CHHS Monica Lounsbery and 66 tenure track faculty. Sixty-two of the new faculty members will start this semester, while the other four will begin the following two semesters.

Jersky, Academic Senate Chair Norbert Schürer and ASI President Marvin Flores, will join President Conoley in highlighting recent achievements and ideas moving forward.

The school also is celebrating 36 President’s Scholars, incoming students who were chosen from a group of high-academic performers. They all are enrolled into the University’s Honors Program and will receive financial support from the university

The Convocation begins 9 a.m. at the Carpenter Performing Arts Center, preceded by a continental breakfast at the Dance Center Courtyard at 8 a.m.

The Bob Cole Conservatory Chamber Choir, recent winner of the Choir of the World and Pavarotti Trophy, will perform at the Convocation. The choir was honored at the prestigious Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod competition.

Last year, the school welcomed 37,430 students to the campus.
