Guidelines and Tips

Day One Digital Access (D1DA) Program

D1DA is a program in which your course materials are provided digitally through BeachBoard at a lower price. Free access is given until the first add/drop date (usually 2 weeks). Publishers must agree to terms set by CSULB to participate in the program. Current publisher partners in the program are Pearson, Cengage, McGraw, Macmillan, Sage, and Human Kinetics.

This would be the easiest route in providing a more affordable option. If you already have adopted a course material from a publisher partnered in our D1DA program, you can provide your students with a special reduced price in a digital format through BeachBoard.

If you are using a courseware (e.g. MyLab, Connect, MindTap) for your class, please make sure to notify the Course Materials Office you are interested in the program by the requisition due date.

If you are using an e-book, the Course Materials Office will reach out via email if your title is eligible. Just make sure to respond by the “respond by date” in the email, as it takes times to integrate digital products into BeachBoard.

Course Packets and Custom Publishing

This route would require some work. The Copy Center would require 6-8 weeks to obtain any copyright permissions and reproduce material. You would need to submit a clean master copy of your packet, provide complete citation information for all articles in the order in which they will be included, and submit a title adoption form along with your originals.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

This route would probably require the most work, but would also be the most beneficial cost-savings option for students. You would need to research OER materials. As simple as it sounds, it takes a lot of time. We suggest using MERLOT or any of the other OER recommended by the CSU Chancellor’s Office.

We recommend using the learning outcomes or topics on your syllabus to research and review OER materials. Take it one day or one weekend at a time. If the first topic is financial analysis, do a search for “financial analysis” in the OER databases. You will receive A LOT of results. Researching and reviewing good material will take some time, which is why we recommend breaking it up by topics or learning outcomes one day or one weekend at a time.
